Transom Appoints David Shields as Executive Vice President, Operations and Finance

Transom Capital Group (“Transom”), an operations-focused private equity firm, today announced that David Shields has joined as Executive Vice President, Operations and Finance, and a member of the firm’s Operations Team. In this role, Mr. Shields will lead financial and operational initiatives across Transom portfolio companies, drawing on two decades of experience as a CFO, corporate development executive and investment banker. Throughout his career, Mr. Shields has built finance organizations, led operational transformations and executed complex transactions from diligence through integration.

Most recently, Mr. Shields served as Chief Financial Officer of Any Hour Group, a private equity-backed home services platform. There, he led the company’s acquisition program, consolidated back-office functions and rebuilt the accounting organization to support growth. Previously, Mr. Shields spent four years at SRS Distribution, a leading distributor of roofing, landscaping and pool supply products, under its private equity ownership, serving in corporate development and divisional CFO roles. At SRS, he closed more than 30 acquisitions during a period of significant growth prior to the company’s approximately $18 billion sale to The Home Depot in 2024.

Formerly, Mr. Shields held senior finance and corporate development roles at ATW, Q2Earth and CRH subsidiaries Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope and Oldcastle Building Products, among others. He began his career in investment banking at Wells Fargo Securities, UBS Investment Bank and Morgan Keegan.

“Over my career, I’ve seen how much value a strong finance function and a disciplined acquisition engine can create for a growing business,” said Mr. Shields. “Transom stands apart for its operationally intensive approach and the depth of its in-house team. I’m excited to partner with management teams across the portfolio to build the financial infrastructure, reporting and M&A capabilities that support sustainable growth.”

Mr. Shields’ appointment reflects Transom’s continued investment in its in-house Operations Team, which partners closely with portfolio company management teams and the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions function to execute value creation initiatives from early diligence through exit.

“David brings extensive experience building and scaling finance organizations, executing acquisitions and navigating the complexities of private equity-backed businesses,” said Rob Randolph, Executive Vice President, Operations & Finance at Transom. “His ability to connect financial strategy with operational execution will be particularly valuable as we partner with management teams to drive growth and performance across the portfolio.”

Mr. Shields earned an MBA in corporate finance with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School and a bachelor’s degree in banking and finance, magna cum laude, from the University of Mississippi, where he was an Academic All-American on the golf team.
