Seven Organizations Launch Global Coalition for Sudan at MedGlobal Chicago Conference

CHICAGO – Seven humanitarian and faith-based organizations launched the Global Coalition for Sudan during MedGlobal‘s “Collaboration for Good: Impact and Innovation in Global Health” conference in Chicago, establishing a coordinated platform for nongovernmental organizations responding to Sudan’s humanitarian crisis.

The seven founding organizations – MedGlobal, SAPA (Sudanese American Physicians Association), Humaniti, MedSudan, Africa Relief, the Multi-Faith Neighbors Network, and GlocalNet – announced the coalition in the presence of Sudan’s Minister of Health, Professor Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, and his delegation.

The Global Coalition for Sudan aims to strengthen collaboration among organizations providing humanitarian assistance and supporting recovery efforts in Sudan. The coalition is open to all nongovernmental organizations interested in coordinating their work, with organizers seeking to expand membership to more than 50 organizations within the first year.

The initiative is intended to provide a platform for participating organizations to share information, coordinate humanitarian programs, and strengthen their collective response. Organizers envision working alongside Sudanese authorities while bringing together organizations with different areas of expertise and humanitarian experience.

“Sudan is the worst humanitarian crisis on Earth right now, and the least reported,” said Dr. Zaher Sahloul, President and CEO of MedGlobal. “No single organization can answer a crisis of this scale alone.”

The coalition’s launch reflects the need for greater cooperation among organizations working to address Sudan’s extensive humanitarian needs. By connecting humanitarian and faith-based organizations through a common platform, the founding members hope to improve coordination and support more effective assistance to affected communities.

“This coalition means shared information, coordinated programs, and a stronger voice for the people of Sudan,” said Professor Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, Sudan’s Minister of Health.

MedGlobal has been providing healthcare and humanitarian assistance in Sudan, where its teams have delivered approximately 250,000 primary healthcare services. Its work has included operating clinics for displaced communities, rehabilitating hospitals, implementing nutrition programs, and supporting clean water initiatives.

Through the Global Coalition for Sudan, the founding organizations seek to build on existing humanitarian efforts and encourage additional organizations to participate in a coordinated response to the country’s ongoing crisis.
