New pathway allows students to complete clinical rotations in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and pursue careers outside the United States and Canada
KINGSTOWN, SAINT VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES, August 26, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Saint James School of Medicine (SJSM) today announced the launch of a new international track to the school’s medical program, following recent approval from the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM). The new track offers an alternative pathway for students who plan to practice medicine outside the United States and Canada upon graduation.
The international track allows students to complete the same core curriculum as SJSM’s standard program, while undertaking their clinical rotations locally in St. Vincent and the Grenadines rather than in the United States. Rotations will be conducted at two respected institutions on the island:
Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, the nation’s primary referral hospital, offering training across a broad range of clinical specialties
Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre, providing focused clinical experience in psychiatric and behavioral health care
Students enrolled in the international track will complete a set of internal examinations developed to assess the same core competencies as the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) series. SJSM Executive Vice President Kaushik Guha said this will ensure graduates are well-prepared for practice in their intended jurisdictions.

This approval allows students from countries outside the United States and Canada to pursue their medical education with us and then return to practice back home, whether that be in India, the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, the Caribbean, or elsewhere,” Guha said. “This has been a long-standing request from many of our students, and thanks to the recent visit and approval from our accreditor, we are finally able to bring it to life.”
The launch of the international track reflects a broader trend among Caribbean medical schools to diversify pathways for an increasingly global student body, many of whom seek to return to their home countries or pursue medical licensure in regions outside North America after graduation. By keeping rotations local, SJSM aims to give International Track students more consistent clinical mentorship, deeper community ties, and a smoother transition into practice within the Eastern Caribbean, European, and Asian healthcare systems.
